The Kill Order - Book Review

Friday, 26 September 2014

Before I begin, I have two things I want to talk about briefly before I get into the book.

One. The Maze Runner movie is AMAZING!!!!! I can't stress it enough, it was caps lock worthy amazing! I feel like even if you haven't read the book, you'll love it and want to read the series. At least that's my completely biased opinion. I saw it with my mom who also read the book, and she loved it. I'm seeing it again, not this upcoming weekend, but next weekend with my step sister who hasn't read the books (yet..maybe?). So I can't wait to hear her opinion of the movie as someone who hasn't read the books yet.

Also Dylan O'Brien, who you guys know I loooooove, was amazing and the perfect Thomas. Again I'm biased because I think he's just the best person ever! So I pictured him the whole time I read the books, and obviously loved Thomas immediately because of the fact. Literally Dylan is the reason I bought this series without even knowing what it was about. I heard Dylan was going to be in the movie, and that was it. Sold! But my mom agreed and she's never seen Dylan in anything before. She told me he did a really good job, and was the perfect Thomas.

GO SEE IT!!! Then comment on this post and let me know what you thought!

Two. *sigh* YouTube. I just think it's not for me, guys! I filmed The Maze Runner book review, and I literally don't remember a single thing I said in it. It's like I completely blacked out while filming it, even editing it was a blur. That's probably why I was so unsatisfied with it. It was all so nerve-racking, and caused such a high amount of stress. I have anxiety, and I just remember while filming it I could literally hear my heart beating in my ears which I imagine can't be good. I really don't know either. I was all by myself, but I just felt this insane pressure. I guess because I've been thinking about doing this for months, and I overthought everything. I really don't know. But for now, I'm just going to stick to my blog and sitting behind my computer screen rather than a camera lens.

Okay on to the book review...

They thought the end came in a flash.

Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth, killing most of the population.

The worst is yet to come.

Mark and Trina were there when it happened. They survived. But now a virus is spreading. A virus that fills humans with murderous rage.

There is no cure. No escape.
They’re convinced that there’s a way to save those who are left—if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some you’re worth more dead than alive.

The end is only the beginning.

My thoughts:

Disclaimer: I will be talking about events that happen in the book, so spoiler alert. You've been warned!

Now when I bought this book, it was immediately after I finished The Death Cure which is the final book in The Maze Runner trilogy. Without thinking about reading the back or really anything about what this book was about, I just bought it with the assumption that this prequel had to do with Thomas, Theresa, Minho, Newt and the gang and how they went from kids getting recruited to the moment Thomas entered the Maze. I discovered on the car ride home that that was not the case, and this book has nothing to do with that. Fortunately, James Dashner announced that he will be writing a book about all of that called The Fever Code that will be released in 2016. Something I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for! I need it now!! So that will be a prequel to The Maze Runner.

Whereas this book is the prequel to the whole series. So I admit because it wasn't what I expected, it took me a while to get inspired to read it because I was so stuck in wanting more of Thomas and co. But eventually after a short time, I picked this book up and boy am I glad I did because I loved it! Now if you haven't read the series yet, I can't imagine you'd want to read this review. But if you are, I hope you're prepared for minor spoilers because I need to describe some things from the series to explain this book. Cool? Okay let's go!

So in the trilogy, the world has been dealing with a catastrophe that happened many years ago to the world in the form of sun flares. When the sun flares happened, shortly after a virus was released called The Flare which attacks the brain, and shuts it down which turns you into what's known as a Crank. The madness makes you insane and crazy. Some people are immune to The Flare and the series is all about studying the killzone (brain) maps to try and find a cure.

This prequel takes you back to when this all started. You follow the main character, Mark, and his group of survivors who have been living safely in a settlement outside of Asheville, in the forrest area for about a year. When the PFC (government) unload in the virus upon them, Mark along with Trina; his childhood friend/crush/girlfriend, Alec and Lana; ex-Military soldiers who helped save Mark and Trina back when the sun flares first hit Earth, start to embark on a journey to find out what the government have done, and why people around them are getting sick, going crazy and dying.

Without giving anything else away, it's really interesting getting to see it from their perspective because as the readers, we already have answers that they don't have yet, but we also get to find out more about why this happened and where it all began. It also ties everything together and you see how it all leads into the trilogy. So the only chunk of time we're missing is what will be revealed in The Fever Code. Which I find so exciting. I really love how this was done, I find it fascinating! James Dashner is an amazing writer. I love his style, and he really knows how to keep you invested, at least in my opinion.

Okay I'll stop rambling! But from now on when I finish a book, I'm going to review it. I didn't really do a full review on The Scorch Trails or The Death Cure. So if you want me to, let me know in the comments.

Thank you for reading!

I'll be okay, just not today.

Not my typical post, but sometimes you just need to let it out. Life isn't easy, and dealing with life with anxiety is really hard. What may seem like something little to someone else is huge to me. I'm affected ten times more, I feel everything all at once, and it's too much to bear sometimes.

Making plans with people is a huge deal to me. Because going out is hard enough as it is. So when I make plans, I look forward to it so much. I'm counting down the days. I'm telling anyone who will listen how excited I am. So when those plans change or even get cancelled, it's devastating to me. Because I already worked it up in my head, and when it doesn't happen, my brain tends to go to the worst place. And having to constantly remind people about the plans we made, just makes it all a hell of a lot worse.

When I have to remind people of the plans we made, and I hear they forgot it was on that day or just forgot in general, it makes me feel like they don't really want to spend that time with me. I feel like the plans we made clearly aren't as exciting to them as it is to me, so I feel like I'm burdening them by asking them to do this with me. And then people wonder why I'm so alone all the time.

The rational side of my brain knows people don't do this on purpose. More important things come up and that's life. You just have to roll with it, and change and adapt. But it's not so easy for me. I guess it doesn't help that lately I've been feeing like I'm not someone's most important person. I know that everyone around me has that person that they'd rather be with. And I long for the day when I can be that person to someone. What that must feel like...

Now I realize how selfish that sounds. I know deep down that the people around me love me and I'm important to them. And honestly I would never want someone to drop what they're doing to spend time with me, the thought of that makes me really uncomfortable. That's too sudden, and I don't like it. It's just the plans. If we make plans, I work it up in my brain (almost too much!) that on this day, we're doing this and it'll be great. Because I'm doing something other than being by myself. I can't adapt to change quickly, it's not something that at the snap of your fingers, it's done and that's that.

So all this amounts to a whole lot of tears, and me feeling really down on myself. I keep trying to fix my life, and learn to adapt more. But it's just not that easy. I'm trying to be better, promise you I am. But it's days like this where I feel like what's the point?

It's just a down day! It happens, everyone has them.

I'll be okay, just not today...

The Maze Runner; video book review

Friday, 19 September 2014

I can't tell you just how excited I am to see this movie! Although I did make a vow to never see a movie on the day it premieres ever again (my anxiety can't handle that amount of chaos). So I will be seeing it next week with my mom, but I'm still so excited to know that the day is finally here where The Maze Runner is now in theatres.

Here's a trailer to the movie:

Now I know I have mentioned this book on here once or twice. But I thought I'd do something different for today, and video review this book. Yup, I finally made my first official YouTube video.

Please keep in mind that this was my first time editing a video, and I'm not 100% happy with it so I don't expect anyone else to be either. But I did the best I could for my first time.

My video book review on The Maze Runner:

Happy Maze Runner Day!!!

Fav Maxi Dress

Thursday, 18 September 2014

I'm personally not a fan of maxi dresses. Actually I take that back, I'm a fan of them just not on me. I just don't like the way they look on me. But I'm going on vacation soon to Vegas/LA, and when I went shopping with that in mind, this one dress stood out to me. I ended up really liking this one, which was new for me. So who knows, maybe I'm slowly being converted into liking maxi dresses. Time will tell.

(sorry for the lack of pics on this one)

end of the week roundup

Friday, 12 September 2014

It's friday which means it's the end of the week, and time for the weekend!! (I'll be working, so less fun for me!) Here's some things I've been loving this past week.

First. If Disney Princes Were Real.

This video cracked me up!! So creative and well done.

Second. The iPhone 6 is coming out!!!!

So you can either get the iPhone 6 or the iPhone 6 Plus. I'm still undecided on which I want to get. I want to wait and see them both in person before I decide. But I do know that I will be getting it in the gold colour. Ahhh, I'm just so excited! I'm so eager for this phone that I'm even thinking of buying out my contract, again for the third time in my life because I just can't wait to get new phones!! We shall see! But for those interested in comes out in certain countries Sept 19th, and you can pre-order starting Sept 12th.

Third. Quick (Puck and Quinn) are back on the glee set.

Mark and Dianna are coming back for Glee Season 6!! I don't know how many episodes they'll do. But this 100% confirms they are back and Quick (Puck and Quinn) are in the final season. Puck and Quinn are by far my fav Glee couple, so I can't tell you how happy I am that they are back! Seeing this picture literally brought tears of joy to my eyes! Can't wait for the final season now!!!

That is all for me this week!

end of week roundup

Friday, 5 September 2014

I haven't done one of these in quite some time!! So I thought I'd share some memorable things that have occurred lately.

First. Big Brother addict once again!

I was once the biggest Big Brother fan there was. But my love for it died, and then I would just watch a season every once in a while. I decided to watch this season because I had a lot of people tell me that I reminded them, personality wise and a little bit of looks wise, of Nicole. I just wanted to see what everyone was talking about it, and got sucked in.

I'm losing my interest again because no-one I like is left, since my "twin" was just evicted last night. Another person I ended up liking was Zach. I'm not going to lie, he was a jerk. But the kind on TV that you just can't help but love to watch because he's so entertaining which is why I choose two moments from him this season to highlight. Literally he gave the best exit on this show that I have ever seen!

These two ended up being my faves of the season! I'd love to see them again if there's ever an All-Stars 2, and hopefully they'll actually work together if there is!

Second. The Little Rascal's 20th Anniversary Reunion.

Who didn't love this movie growing up!! It was the best! I love when shows from the past come back for reunion pictures. Check more pictures from this Little Rascals reunion, here.

Third. Taylor Swift's Shake It Off

I am OBSESSED with this song!! I love Taylor Swift, I always have. She's one of those ones who's albums I always buy immediately. So I'm super excited to buy her upcoming album!

Fourth. I did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

I got nominated by one of my co-workers to do it. It was very cold, but so worth it. I've donated as well as it's for a good cause. I've been enjoying watching all the different videos of people around the world doing this as well.

What were some of the things you've been loving lately?
