Ringing in the New Year!

Wednesday, 31 December 2014

New Year's Eve is always one of the hardest days for me! I always get really down on this day. Ringing in another year of being alone, it's not easy. This year has been one of the worst years of my life and I've had some bad ones. But it just felt like this year, anytime I was up, I got knocked down. I don't want to go into all the details of why this year was so hard.

Here's what I hope for in 2015!

On Jan 12th of this upcoming year will be my last day of working at Tim Hortons! I cannot tell you what a relief I already feel at saying that! While I'll miss working with my amazing co-workers the most, I'm happy to be moving forward. My work become a main source of my stress and anxiety! I started to feel a sense of dread every morning that I had to go to work, to the point of going into near panic every morning for four days straight.

So my plan for the new year is to take a few weeks to myself before I go off and hand out resumes at any place that I can work with books! The one thing that makes me happy despite everything is reading. Which is why I want to become a Librarian. So I'm hoping in September to start online courses to become a Library Technician.

I also would really love to get my license! I came so close this year, but I wasn't confident enough, my driving instructor said, so that made me lose my motive. Driving gives me anxiety because I'm afraid of getting into an accident. It's just that I don't have quick reflexes, and I'm afraid when the time comes that I'll just freeze and that will be it. I know everyone has said that instinct takes over. But like my driver instructor said, I'm not confident enough, and he was right! So I really need to work on that this year.

And finally, my love life which has been nonexistent my whole life. I've never been in a relationship, so I have no idea what to do or even how to find love. There have been times in my life that I could've been a relationship with some pretty great guys, but I let my fear and insecurities win over every single time! I need to figure that out, and soon! I'm going to be turning 27 in June and the older I get, the more I don't feel like I can ever find love and that I'll just turn into a crazy cat lady!

Anyways, those are some of the things that I plan to work on in the upcoming year! What are some of your New Year's resolutions?

On that note, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Christmas is, by far, my favourite time of the year!! I love when everything's all festive. I love the music. I love Christmas shopping, and wrapping all the presents. I love decorating the Christmas tree. I love spending time with the family, and giving Christmas presents. I just love everything about it!!

So I just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! to those who celebrate it. And to those that don't, a Happy Holidays! I wish everyone all the best in the new year! Be safe, be happy!

One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train and sets off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. Rating: 4/5

My thoughts:

Disclaimer: I will be talking about events that happen in the book, so spoiler alert. You've been warned!

1. The Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson

This was Part 1 of the three short stories. This story follows Jubilee Dougal as her story starts off with her waiting to go to almost-perfect boyfriend, Noah's family Christmas party when she finds out from their neighbour lawyer that her parents were arrested, and she needs to pack immediately to get on a train to travel to Florida to stay with her grandparents. All of this takes place on Christmas Eve, and Jubilee takes you along the crazy 24 hours she has to go through.

I really liked this story! I enjoyed going along on Jubilee's Christmas Eve nightmare, and seeing how she gets through it. I really like Maureen's writing style since I've never read anything from her before. I especially enjoyed the cute romance that occurred between Jubilee and the boy she met at The Waffled House, Stuart. I know Stranger Danger is real (and she does touch note of that), so that's why this is just cute fiction!

2. A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle by John Green

This story follows Tobin, and his two friends, JP and the Duke. They start off watching a James Bond movie, but then their friend Keun (who we met in the first story) calls to let them know there's cheerleaders staying at The Waffle House where he works and tells them to get there immediately with the game Twister. Keun is working with two other people, who also called their friends. So the race begins to see who can get to The Waffle House first! Will they make it?

I love John Green!! I love his writing style so much, and so of course I liked this story. I liked a tad bit more than the first one. I enjoyed their adventure a bit more, how it was a race to get there and it was fun and cute. (Spoiler alert) I had a feeling that The Duke (who's a girl) liked Tobin from the very beginning. I love their story and Tobin's journey of discovering his true feelings as well as discovering her feelings for him!!

3. The Patron Saint of Pigs by Lauren Myracle

This story follows Addie Lindsey as she struggles through heartbreak and self-realization! Her story was interesting, and it ended up connecting all the stories together in the end. In the first two stories, we encounter Jeb, a guy who was stuck on the train with Jubliee who was desperate to get to his girlfriend. Then when they all went to The Waffle House for warmth, he encountered Tobin who he tried to get to send a message to his girlfriend. In the third story, we meet that girlfriend, Addie. Addie also made a small appearance in the first story since she's friends with Stuart, she was in a story Stuart shared with Jubilee.

We find out that Addie and Jeb broke up, for which Addie is to blame and she's heartbroken about it, unaware that Jeb is trying to get to her. She calls up her two best friends, Dorrie and Tegan, to help her with her crisis. As they help her out, Tegan lets them know that her teacup pig, Gabriel, is arriving on Boxing Day. This leads Addie on her journey, and ends up with everyone all together in the same place.

End thoughts

I really enjoyed this book!! I thought it was so cute! A nice book to read at Christmas time. I liked all three stories, and where each main character ended up in the end. It was all very sweet and Christmasy.

Next book on the list: Girl Online by Zoe Sugg. (It's one of my Christmas presents, so I'll have to wait a few days to read it!)

Allegiant - Book Review (MAJOR SPOILERS) + Insurgent trailer

Started: Nov 21, 2014 | Ended: Dec 11, 2014

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Genre: Dystopia

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered, fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she's known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.
But Tris's new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature, and of herself, while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.
Rating: 5/5

My thoughts:

Disclaimer: I will be talking about events that happen in the book, so spoiler alert. You've been warned!

So this books format was a bit different then the first two in that each chapter isn't just told in Tris's P.O.V.,  but in every other chapter switches off between her and Tobias's P.O.V. Which I'll admit that took some getting use to, as I had gotten so use to Tris's perspective that I often forgot whose POV I was reading. But eventually, you get use to it and I ended up liking it that way. I enjoyed finding out Tobias's perspective on what was going on.

Overall, I really enjoyed the series! I'm very eager to see the next two movies.

I started to getting a sinking feeling that either Tris or Tobias was going to die, especially after the part where they were saying goodbye. I just for some reason thought it was Tobias! I think because of the book of short stories about Four that was released. I don't know why I just thought it was because he died in Allegiant.

Boy was I wrong!! But the moment she decided to go to the Weapons room instead of Caleb, I knew it was her. When I finished the chapter where she dies, I had to put the book down for a moment and go for a walk around my house because I knew what was coming next; Tobias finding out. That was devastating! It was just so heartbreaking, and my heart just felt so heavy throughout the remainder of the book.

Good book, good way to go out and I really like the way everything was tied up.

Before I go, here's the official Insurgent movie trailer that was released today!! So excited for this movie!

Looks good!! Can't wait!

GRWM: work xmas party!

Saturday, 6 December 2014

From this to that!

I wanted to do a different way of blogging today. I'm going to be getting all dressed up nice for my annual work Christmas party, so I thought I would take pictures as I got ready and shared my day with you. I'm going to be writing this blog as the day goes on, instead of just all at once later on.

I was going to take pictures and blog everything, but honestly my morning was boring! I ate breakfast, showered, backed up my files on my computer, checked out tumblr and watched some youtube videos.

So anyways, let's get started!!

My 'I just woke up so what' face! I literally woke up 10 minutes before this picture was taken. Excuse the laundry basket in the background. I usually make sure that's not in the background on my awake days. This morning was not one of those days!

Don't worry this is much later in the day! Finished off my birthday wine (which was 6 months ago!). Thanks Tasha!!

Setting the Christmasy mood with my Christmas candle! Bought at Wal-Mart for $10! It's the best!!!

 My makeup essentials for today!

AHH, hideous!! I've never put myself so bared faced on the internet before! So I'm scared, but here it is! My before makeup shot!

And after!! Much nicer!!

 Hair wand and hairspray

 Best hairspray ever!!

The dress:

Dress: H&M (n/a) | Shoes: Le Chateau (n/a) | Headband: Icing's (n/a)

Note: My dress was on sale at H&M. I couldn't find it on the website, but there might still be some left in stores. There was black, maroon and light pink for colours.

I'm Christmas party ready!!
