Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 5

Friday, 31 July 2015

HOHs: Jackie / Vanessa
Nominees: Liz/Julia / James (Jackie) & Clay/Becky (Vanessa)
BotB Winners: Liz/Julia / James, Jackie dethroned
Have-Nots: Clay, Shelli, Steve
Sole HOH: Vanessa
Nominees: Clay/Becky
POV Players: Vanessa, Becky, Clay, Liz/Julia, John, Shelli
POV Winner: Clay, POV used on himself
Replacement Nominee: Jason
Evicted Houseguest: Jason, voted out 7-2

There was no takeover this week, which I think mainly has to do with the twins entering the game as individual players. So let's forget that and talk about this crazy week!

The plan from the start was to have Austin be backdoored this week. Because of the Battle of the Block, it seems almost every week is a backdoor situation. Vanessa wanted to be dethroned because she didn't want to be the one to have to backdoor Austin. She put up two people who were suppose to be really good at comps based on their physical appearance (big mistake since I wouldn't trust Clay to win a comp since he hadn't yet). Jackie put up Liz who is Austin's closest ally and James who was meant to throw the BotB. Obviously things go wrong, Clay and Becky lose the comp and the plan fails.

My gut told me when this happened that Vanessa would chicken out and change the plan, and I was right. As soon as Clay won the POV, the plan changed and somehow Jason ended up being the main target for things that he didn't even do. She went through all the stops of coming up with anything and everything, things that didn't even matter anymore like who won the Phonebooth twist. Ultimately she went with the age old "it's a group decision" excuse which it was really a "Shelli and Clay decision" but anyways.

I'm really upset about all this because I love Jason so much!! I also do like Becky, I think if she plays her cards right, she can go far. Only problem is she's aligning with people that I hate. The Sixth Sense is a group of people who are on my last nerve! I'm tired of their constant reign over the house. They are now so arrogant that they truly believe that they will be in power all summer. I'm so ready for them to be kicked off their pedestal because at this point, it's getting boring! Shelli is the worst in my opinion. I would love nothing more than to see her go first out those 6 people. She's the reason that Jason is in the position he is in, all because people weren't overjoyed that her precious Clay won the POV when really they didn't want seem rude on Becky's behalf. That's really what it all boils down to! Of course, none of this is has been edited into the show so casual viewers have no clue how irritating she is!!

Okay enough of this, time for Johnny Mac time!

Finally a week where Johnny Mac is not nominated!! This guy has been in every competition since he walked through the BB door. So finally a week where he can just sit back and watch, right? While he did get to watch the BotB, he ended up getting picked to play in POV comp. As Johnny Mac said, "This is terrible. It's like getting called into work on the weekend". As much as he hated it, I loved it because that meant more DR sessions from the DR king himself. He came in second in the comp which was really good considering the comp was pretty much made for the football player who won it. Other than that, John hasn't had much to do this week other than reassure one of his closest allies, Becky, that she's safe.

The one thing that worries me is that other HG (mainly Shelli and Vanessa) are catching on to how good of a spot John is in in the house. They even compared him to Dan Gheesling saying he could be like Dan. I always thought he was playing a similar game to Dan's first season (BB10). But hearing them say it worries me because I don't want them to start targetting him, and for John to not realize that they are after him, as he is currently working with that side of the house. I think either way he's safe for next week, but he needs to start winning HOH's instead of just winning POV's.

Dan Gheesling is my favourite player of all time on Big Brother, and I loved his first season when he went from guy everyone loved to guy that was dominating the game. I would love to see John take on that role! He's done the nice guy that everyone thinks is funny and everyone loves role. When jury starts, I'd love to see him step it up a notch and be the guy that's sending people to jury and doing what it takes to be the winner of this game! Johnny Mac is definitely climbing the ladder into being one of my all-time fav players with Dan. It all depends on what he does in the next few weeks!

Okay this is week's post was a lot longer than my usual. I'm excited to see what happens next week!

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 4

Saturday, 25 July 2015

HOHs: Liz(Julia) / Shelli
Nominees: James/Jackie (Liz/Julia) & Jason/John (Shelli)
BotB Winners: James/Jackie, Liz/Julia dethroned
Have-Nots: John, Becky, Jackie and Audrey
Sole HOH: Shelli
Nominees: Jason/John
POV Players: Shelli, John, Jason, Vanessa, Meg, James
POV Winner: Vanessa, POV used on Jason
Replacement Nominee: Audrey
Evicted Houseguest: Audrey, voted out 10-1 (received a penalty vote for breaking Have-Not restrictions)

This week was 90's week in the BB house. Nothing major other than all the competitions were 90's themed comps. The major thing that happened this week was that the house finally got Audrey out. Since week1 she's been a major source of all the drama by spreading false rumours about literally everyone. Her gameplay was horrible, and I couldn't be happier that she's no longer in the house. On a personal level I had sympathy for her because when she got nominated, she had a mental breakdown. What they didn't show on the show was that Audrey had multiple trips to the DR because she was experiencing panic attacks and needed to go on Ativan. I wish her all the best in life, and hope she's feeling better now that she's not in the house anymore.

Back to 90's week for a quick second. After the Battle of the Block, the losers and the dethroned HOH received a punishment for the week. They had to join a boy band called the Whackstreet Boys! So John, Jason and Liz/Julia had to wear all white a la Backstreet Boys in the "I Want It That Way" music video, and they would get random calls throughout the days to perform a choreographic dance. It was so fantastic that the Backstreet Boys themselves tweeted about it!

Pretty awesome right!!

John Update time!! Another week, another nomination for John! These past 4 weeks have been hard for John fans, having to constantly watch him get put up on the block and fight for his life. We're getting so use to it that, like John, we also feel like pros at this point. One thing I'm happy about it is that he wasn't asked to throw any comps this time around. This was the first week however where John didn't win a BotB or POV to save himself. Luckily John is well liked and is yet to be in danger of going from pawn to target, so we all knew he was fine especially when Audrey was named the replacement nominee. Like Jason said when he was put up next to John, "campaigning against Johnny Mac is like campaigning against Jesus".

Be back next week for another recap!

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 3

Saturday, 18 July 2015

HOHs: Vanessa and Austin
Nominees: James/John (Vanessa) & Meg/Jason (Austin)
BotB Winners: Meg/Jason, Austin dethroned
Have-Nots: No Have-Nots (BB Takeover)
Sole HOH: Vanessa
Nominees: James/John
POV Players: Vanessa, James, John, Shelli, Austin, Audrey
POV Winner: John, POV used on himself
Replacement Nominee: Jeff
Evicted Houseguest: Jeff, voted out 7-4

When I found out Jeff was the target this week, I could not be happier! If you don't watch the live feeds like I do, then just now that he's the definition of misogynistic douchebag. He walked around acted like the women in this house owed him something, and would call them names if they didn't. Just disgusting! I will not miss him, at all.

The BB Takeover twist this week was Gronk Week. NFL star Rob Gronkowski took over the house and made it party week. No Have-Nots! But if someone didn't show up to one of his parties, then they would be have-not's. It lasted a little over 24 hours. At random times throughout the day, the party music would start and he would come over the PA system telling them where to go in the house and what kind of party it was. Overall, weak takeover but a nice break.

Each week I'm going to do a John section where I comment on his progress because like I said last week, he is my favourite! If he ends up not making it to the final 2 then whenever he goes, is when I stop watching the live feeds and just watch the show. He got put up AGAIN this week, and agreed to throwing another Battle of the Block which I wasn't happy about. Turned out he didn't even need to throw as his partner was so terrible. I'm just tired of John risking his game this way, for people who so clearly don't care about his game in the long run. They may offer him deals and such, but when he's not around, they make it clear to me that they will sacrifice him if need be, and that is not okay with me. I hope that John steps up soon, and wins an HOH and makes the people who put him up, sweat a little bit. We shall see! I'm still rooting for the Rockstar Dentist all the way!!!

Okay, week 3 done! Onwards to Week 4!

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 2

Saturday, 11 July 2015

HOHs: Becky and Shelli
Nominees: Steve/Jason (Becky) & John/Da'Vonne (Shelli)
BotB Winners: Steve/Jason, Becky dethroned
Have-Nots: Meg, James, Jason and Steve
Sole HOH: Shelli
Nominees: John/Da'Vonne
POV Players: Shelli, John, Da'Vonne, Clay, Meg, Steve
POV Winner: John, POV used on himself
Replacement Nominee: Meg
Evicted Houseguest: Da'Vonne

This week's Big Brother was another week where so much happened that I can't believe it's only week 2! I now have the feeds, so I've been glued to them this past week. Live feeds are better than the show in my opinion because you actually know what's going on rather than following the horrible edits.

I will start by saying I have a clear favourite now that I've caught up and been watching the feeds, and that's Johnny Mac. Yes, he yells in the DR! I find it hilarious!! It's funny how I tend to lean towards the guys who yell during their DR sessions. Zach Rance and Dan Gheesling are the two others that come to mind. Out of all the guys in the house, he's the nicest and funniest. He's playing an excellent social game right now. The bad side is agreeing to be a pawn and agreeing to throw the Battle of the Block. Eventually that could hurt him. Right now because it's pre-jury, it's not too bad especially because he won the Power of Veto to save himself, showing he can win competitions when he needs to. I'm hoping that in weeks to come that he steps up, and starts to win more comps, specifically when he's past the jury mark. Rooting for the Rockstar Dentist for the win!!

This week's BB Takeover was hosted by Kathy Griffin and her twist was that she would make calls to the HG's and whoever answers the 7th call will get the power to nullify 3 votes on eviction night. Da'Vonne ended up winning that and nullified Becky, Jackie and Jeff. But at this point in the game, even that couldn't save her, and she went out on a 7-2 vote.

Now on to Week 3!!

All the Bright Places - Book Review

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Published by Knopf on January 6, 2015
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 388
Book Edition: Hardcover
No. of times read: 1

Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

This is an intense, gripping novel perfect for fans of Jay Asher, Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Gayle Forman, and Jenny Downham from a talented new voice in YA, Jennifer Niven.
Rating: 5/5

My Review:

I fell in love with this book, plain and simple! Such a beautifully well-written book that deals with Mental Health in a real way.

Finch was a character that immediately loved and he sky-rocketed to one of my all-time fav book characters. Here's a guy who is quirky and odd, and in no way a freak. He goes through different phases of 80s Finch, Badass Finch, Homeless Finch, Nerd Finch, etc. He battles with depression and is bi-polar. He describes it as being Awake and being Asleep. Throughout the book he is Awake, and is fighting so hard to stay Awake for this girl he falls for.

Violet starts off the book as a very guarded, very keeps to herself character as she's dealing with the death of her sister. They were in a car accident together, her sister, Eleanor, died and she lived. It's only when she meets Finch, and starts to work on a Geography assignment together that she starts to learn to live again, and love again as she falls for this guy who teaches her how. Violet's a character that really grew on me. The more she opened up, the more you loved her.

As a person who suffers with Mental Health of a different kind, it is nice to get a new perspective on other forms of illness. This book deals with it in such a real way that it's appreciated. It is something that needs to be talked about and understood. It's not something you can just slap a label on it, and move on. You can never know what's really going on with a person and what they are dealing with on a daily basis. It helps to talk about it, and it helps to learn more. At the end of this book the Author left an Author's note that is worth reading, along with website links to help you learn more or if you're struggling, places to go to get help!

This book is beautiful, and tragic, and lovely! The love story in it is so wonderful as these two characters learn so much from each other, and love each other so much. I also found out this book is being made into a movie, and that Elle Fanning will be playing Violet. I can't wait to see the movie, and to find out who they cast as Finch.

Big Brother 17 Recap: Week 1

Saturday, 4 July 2015

You may remember I mentioned a couple times that I am a huge Big Brother fan, well this is me reaffirming that. Something I wish I did last summer was do a weekly recap of the season. Since I didn't last summer, I'm going to this summer with Season 17.

My plan is to post every Friday, so I'm a day late with this one but I will try to make it work next week. I also will talk about what's really been going on in the house as I keep up with the live feeds. I'm not a fan of how the show edits things sometimes. They tend to leave things out, and give certain people a good edit when they might not deserve one.

Okay, week 1 here we go. If you want to get caught up with who all the cast members are, go here.

HOHs: James and Jason
Nominees: Steve/Jackie (James) & John/Becky (Jason)
BotB Winners: John/Becky, Jason dethroned
Have-Nots: Da'Vonne, Vanessa, Liz and Austin
Sole HOH: James
Nominees: Steve/Jackie
POV Players: James, Steve, Jackie, Becky, John, Jason
POV Winner: Steve, POV used on himself
Replacement Nominee: Jace
Evicted Houseguest: Jace, 12-1 vote

This first week of Big Brother was absolutely crazy!! So much happened went down that only half of it ended up on the show. Jace from the start was very obnoxious, and I honestly couldn't stand him. The plan was always to backdoor him and I'm glad that was executed accordingly.

The new twist this season is called the BB Takeover. Where each week, they add new twists to the game. This week Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race took over the BB house. His first twist was adding in two people who were on the The Amazing Race into the house, Jeff and Jackie. During the first two HOH comps of the season, two people had to sit out of the comps. Da'Vonne and Vanessa both volunteered. The second part of Phil's BB Takeover is that they are both safe from eviction, and they each get to keep another person safe for the week. Da'Vonne chose Liz and Vanessa chose Austin. Since these four are safe for the week, they all volunteered to be the first four Have-Nots of the Summer.

Let's talk Audrey and Da'Vonne for a minute. These two had an all out argument a few days ago that didn't make it on the show. Audrey got caught in a lie, and everyone found out and they had a house meeting to get to the bottom of it and everything. This resulted in Audrey holing up in bed for the whole day, defeated but would only try and talk game with anyone who checked on her. Further digging herself deeper. I find both these girls to be playing too hard, too fast. Da'Vonne is explosive! She seems to find a reason to confront everyone over every little thing. I will not be surprised if these two get evicted soon.

Twin Twist, It's back!! If you watch Season 5 of Big Brother, then you are aware of the Twin Twist. A set of twins play Big Brother as one person, if they can survive the first 5 weeks in the house without anyone suspecting them, they get to play as individuals. If you want to see how Season 5's twist played out, you can watch it here. This year, the twins are Liz and her sister, Julia. They pretend to be just Liz for now.

I have a lot of favourites so far this season. I really like John, Steve, Becky, Meg and the twins. But there's others I like as well. As the season goes on, it'll be easier to pick who I want to win and who I think will win. There's no solid alliance at the moment from what I can see. They all keep flipping and changing at the moment.

I'm sure I missed something! This week, like I said, was crazy in the BB house.

Are you a Big Brother fan? Who are you rooting for this season?

OTP Spotlight: Bellamy and Clarke

Friday, 3 July 2015

Show: The 100
Network: CW
Actors: Bob Morley and Eliza Taylor

They started off the show on opposite sides. Bellamy viewed Clarke as one of the privileged while Clarke didn't agree with the decisions Bellamy was making and the way he was leading some of the kids. Eventually throughout the first season, they grow to work together and begin to respect one another. By the end of the season they are co-leaders of the group, and see each other as friends.

In Season 2, they are separated at the beginning until Clarke escapes the Mountain and joins up with him and their people. They continue to lead together, and look out for one another. In the season finale, they ended up killing all of the mountain people including children and people who helped them escape together. When they get back to the camp, Clarke decides to leave the group and set off on her own despite Bellamy asking her not to and that they were in this together.

Why I love them:

Before I ever watched the show, these two were always all over my tumblr dashboard. So I was already curious about them, and as I watched the show I could see why they were such a popular ship. The chemistry is electric, even when they were on opposite but more so once they came together as friends and co-leaders. I love how they always look out for one another, and have this mutual respect for each other.

My hope for them in Season 3:

I hope Bellamy ends up going to look for her even though she said she didn't know where she was going to go. I mainly just want these two to share more scenes together since there wasn't enough last season, in my opinion. Any kind of scene will do as these two have so much chemistry. Of course, I'd love to see them go in a romantic direction, but we'll just have to see if they ever go there.

Do you watch The 100? Are you a Bellarke fan?

TV Talk; The 100

Thursday, 2 July 2015

I've always been interested in The 100 because I love dystopian, but I never got around to watching it until now. Over the last few days, I watched the first two seasons on Netflix and now I'm hooked and can't wait until Season 3!!

So of course, new show means new post talking about the characters. Here we go!

Clarke Griffin; From the beginning, Clarke is established in the leadership role. Her mom is a part of the Ark's council and is the Ark's doctor, so Clarke is well known amoung the 100. Throughout the series, she makes the hard decisions and does everything she can to help and save her people.

Bellamy Blake; When The 100 land on the ground, Bellamy believes he killed the chancellor so he does everything he can to make sure the Ark thinks they are all dead so that no-one can come after him. This makes him seem like kind of a bad guy in the beginning, but he also establishing himself as a leader with the other kids who don't want people from the Ark to come to the ground. As the series goes on, he comes to terms with what he did. He continues being a leader with Clarke and doing what he can for his people.

Finn Collins; Finn is the peacekeeper of the group. He's always trying to be the voice of reason, and looking for ways to keep the peace between his people and the grounders. Finn and Clarke form an immediate connection, and end up sleeping together. Unbeknownst to Clarke, Finn has a girlfriend on the Ark, Raven. When Raven comes to the ground, Clarke is heartbroken and it causes tension between them. Eventually Finn and Raven break up because Finn has fallen in love with Clarke. When Finn believes the grounders have Clarke, he stops at nothing to get her back including killing them mercilessly. This ultimately leads to his death. Clarke learns that the grounders plan to torture Finn before killing him, so Clarke ends up killing him to save him from that.

Octavia Blake/Lincoln; Octavia is Bellamy's little sister. On the Ark you're only allowed to have one child as there's not enough oxygen up their for everyone to have more than one. Because of this, Bellamy and his mom had to hid Octavia from the Ark. One day when Bellamy sneaks her out so she can have fun, she ends up getting caught which leads her to become one of the 100.

Lincoln is a grounder who quickly grows fond of Octavia and ends up saving her life. When he gets captured by Bellamy and the others, Octavia ends up doing what she has to to save him. Their love for each other is so strong that they would and have gone against their own people for each other. Octavia trains to be a grounder, and where it stands now, these two aren't leaving each other's side anytime soon.

Jasper Jorden/Monty Green; Best Friends for life! These two provide the comic relief and have an epic bromance completely with their own hand shake. Jasper is always looking to get in with the leaders, and fight for his people while Monty is very good with technology and helps as much as he can in that area. These two get taken to Mount Weather together, and while there, Jasper falls for a girl named Maya. When Clarke and the others come to rescue them, they end up killing everyone of the Mountain people to do it, including Maya. Monty helps Clarke and Bellamy do it by using his computer skills. Because of all this, I suspect there's going to be some tension for these BFF's in Season 3.

Raven Reyes; Clarke's mom, Abby, goes to Raven to fix up a pod that can get them to the ground because Raven is a really good mechanic. She ends up getting it working, but has to go without Abby due to unfortunate circumstance. Once on the ground, Raven quickly joins the 100 and becomes their mechanic, fixing the radio and making bullets and bombs. Wick, an engineer on the Ark, makes it to the ground in Season 2, and they end up working together and eventually sleeping together. Raven is a very guarded person, so it was nice to see her start to let her guard down with him. I'm interested to see what their relationship is like in Season 3.

The adults (Marcus Kane, Abby Griffin and Thelonious Jaha); These three are the leaders of the Ark. Thelonious was the original chancellor, and the one who ordered the 100 to the ground. Marcus is a kind of right hand man, and does what he can to keep the peace. Abby, Clarke's mom, is the Ark's doctor and she will go against the law to do what's right. Heading into Season 3, Marcus and Abby are with all the Ark people and the 100 after rescuing their people from the Mountain at Camp Jaha. I personally ship Marcus and Abby, so we'll see if they ever get together or not. Thelonious left to find the city of light with John Murphy (one of the 100 kids), and when he got there, he meant a woman who is digital (I can't even begin to try and explain it), and she wants him to help fix the missile that he came to the ground in.

I fell in love with this show! If you love the dystopian genre, then give this show a watch. It's so good with a balance of action, and drama, and great character relationships. I can't wait for Season 3 now that I'm all caught up. I do wish the seasons were longer. But I just ready that it's got another mid-season slot and won't be back until the spring of next year which really sucks!! But this show is so good, I might rewatch it all again when it gets closer to the Season 3 premiere

Do you watch The 100? What do you love about it?

Monthly Wrap Up: June

Wednesday, 1 July 2015

Remember when I said I wanted to do a Montly Wrap Up post once a month, as you can tell that didn't happen. I think I'd just rather do it every now and then, especially if I'm a bit of a reading streak.

Books read: 5
Total No. of Pages Read: 1,458
Genres of Books Read: 2 Fantasy, 2 Humour, 1 Contemporary

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins
Rating: 5/5

This book quickly became one of my favourite books, ever!! I loved the storyline, the characters, the writing, everything! As you know, I'm a big Buffy fan, and this book has that Buffy vibe. Obviously completely different circumstances, but same kind of humour and girl power fight scenes. Also love the love story in this one.

Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins
Rating: 4/5

The sequel to Rebel Belle was almost as good, but I wish it was a little longer than what it was. The storyline progressed further in this book, and I like where it's going. I can't wait to find out more in the third book. The ending was sad, but expected.

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Rating: 4.5/5

A perfect summer read!! A story about unbreakable friendship, self-discovery, and learning to let your guard to love. I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was a easy read, and perfect for summer.

Alice in tumblr-Land by Tim Manley
Rating: 5/5

This book is so cute!! Takes all the Disney characters you love and puts a modern twist on their stories. Some are a lot more adult themed than others, still a fun and hilarious read.

The Fangirl's Guide to the Galaxy by Sam Maggs
Rating: 4/5

If you're a fangirl then this book will speak to you on so many levels. From the words we use, to the fanfic terminology, to how to handle conventions, it's got it all.

Okay that's all I've read for the month of June. Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them if you did?
